Hi everyone,
              Super excited to share with you an album that I made for a new mommy.And as a first I'm also sharing a You Tube video which lets you peep through the inside.
              But since this is my first you tube upload,there are some resolution issues.I'll try to see what can be done about it.So please bear with the picture quality and excuse me....... The video that I have on my laptop is so much better and crystal clear.

Handmade photo album

Hey everyone,

            Today I'm sharing some pics of a photo album I made.A cute little album personalized for a young person in my neighborhood.Since the coming of digital cameras,photo albums have completely disappeared.This young one was not happy,as he/she did not have as many photo albums as people around him/her.He/she couldn't hold and flip through the pages as his/her older friends.I made and gave him/her this and he/she is more than delighted.A pretty little album with exclusively his/her pictures.

 

Used some dies,bigshot, a scrap piece of cloth and some handmade paper.

Monsoon theme party : Card,folder,decoration,games,competition for ladies meet / kitty party

Hey everyone,
                  Since monsoon has hit the country at this time of the year,it is the favourite theme of parties these days.I have dug up some old pictures of a party that we hosted a long time ago and sharing them here.

The backdrop was done like this.These were all made up of paper and painted thereafter.

How to make a spring (flower) birthday invitation card for kids party or make a card for kids school competitions

Hello everyone,

          I made this pretty simple and straightforward party invitation card for a young boy's birthday party.It was fun to make and turned up pretty cute.

Supplies required -

Decorative paper (for the front)
White paper for the back(I used printer A4 paper)
Green paper for the leaves
Any coloured paper for the butterflies
Floral tape
Bamboo sticks
Glue
Big shot machine(optional)
Cherry Lynn french pastry doily dies (optional)

Steps for making the card -

Step 1- Using the big shot and the very pretty Cherry Lynn french pastry dies,I  cut out doilies for the front of the card in red paper.If you do not have the big shot,don't loose heart,you can still make the card by simple creating a free hand shape on the decorative paper or use loads of free templates available on the net.Trace them or print them on your paper and trim to get the desired shape.

Teacher's day handmade cards

Hey everyone,
            After uploading the 3D box card yesterday ,I'm posting some more pics of a few simple hand made cards ,we did using our bigshot machine and embossing folders.In case you missed our post from yesterday you can find it by clicking HERE.It comes with a step by step tutorial on how to make the cards(the ones in the pic just below).

The other cards we did were very easy to make using the embossing folders.We finished around 10 cards in less than 2 hours.So pics of the other cards which were made are below.

How to make a beautiful handmade teacher's day card

Hey everyone,
         After a long while, I'm back with an easy tutorial for a teacher's day card.It turned up nice and pretty.And the best aspect is it's 3D appearance.It looks like a box and as soon as you open the box.......bang , the box opens up and the walls start moving and slowly go down to reveal the beautiful inside of the card.This card can be made for any occasion and not just teachers day,like birthdays,anniversaries,invitation cards for ladies meet,kitty parties etc.

So if you want to know how to make an elegant card which opens as a surprise for the recipient here is the tutorial to make it.

Material Required-

Handmade paper (red and green in my case) or any cardstock or thick paper

Fevicol,ruler,pencil,gel pens for writing

Embellishments (Ribbon,gem stones,paper flowers etc)

Skills required-

If you can handle measurements with rulers and scissors you can easily nail it.These cards were made by a fifth grader and a second grader with little help from outside.

Step by step tutorial for making the teachers day homemade card-

Step 1 -Take your handmade paper and cut it to the dimension 12" * 12" square.Then draw 2 horizontal lines(red lines) and 2 vertical lines (also red lines)  4 inches apart.I'm demonstrating on plain white paper so that you can see the lines really well.You can straightaway make the lines on your handmade or decorative paper.

Step 2- Now cut off the four corner piece(where it is written "Reject this piece")

Step 3-  Now you will be left with a piece that looks like this.Save the corner four pieces.

Let me tell you why.

If you use a paper that's double sided and has print on both the sides,you don't need those 4 pieces as the inside of the box is already nice and pretty.But hand made papers are usually very rough on the reverse side.It spoils the inside look of your card.So what I did was paste those 4 scrap pieces back on the 4 walls, so that the box had the same outer and inner shine.I also cut a 4*4 " square to cover the middle part.

Another alternate option that you have is to repeat steps 1-3 on another sheet of handmade paper and then glue the two of them back to back.

Step 4- This piece can now be folded like the picture below so that it starts looking like the beginning of the box.

Favourites from the year 2012.....A review post from Ideas out of the mist.

Hey everyone,
                As we reach the end of the year 2012 and welcome the next, I have put together a post of my favourite posts from the blog in the year 2012.So in case you'd missed any one of them just click on the pic / link and you'll land on the original post.

So let's begin with January.It was a very simple one with the basic idea of recycling and yet one among the most popular post on the blog.
A popsicle stick(ice cream sticks) pen stand.

In February came the ribbon bow ring post with the tutorial.

March saw the spiral ribbon hair clip tutorial.

In April I wrote a post on a handmade flower invitation cards for birthdays with a tutorial and it turned up well.

In May this year came the summer scrap book cover that I had made using the paper mache technique.

In June, I was on vacation and did not post anything.......:)

In July,  came many posts.But the one which is the most popular post from the blog till date was the rakhi making one with tutorial.The response it got surprised me.

And another one from this month was the school bus prop one.This is again a popular post.

In August I posted  a very pretty hair clips and accessory organizer / french memo board / hair bow holder with a tutorial.I love this one.

September  saw some posts on party games.A fun paper quiz can be found here.

And a couple party game can be found here.

And then came a number of posts on how to make Diwali lamps.Everyone was unique but my favourite one is this one.

  

November saw the handmade Monsoon themed invitation card for ladies meet / kitty.

And the final post is from December. It was a handmade evening gown birthday party invite.And I think this is the BEST creation of the year.It looked so elegant and girly and pretty.

Evening gown handmade birthday party invitation - A tutorial

Hey everyone,
                    I'm so delighted to share with you, a handmade birthday party invitation card, I made for a little girl in the neighborhood.It turned up real cute and I love it.It is a handmade dress card.So I've taken time to put together a tutorial for you ,if you want to make the same.
                     Here is what the card looks like.

To make one you'll need-
White chart paper
Fevicol
Decorative paper for the dress (Golden and lemon yellow in my case)

Ribbon of your colour choice
Binder clips
Scallop scissors (those that create a wavy edge)
Thin piece of card

Some patience..........LOL (And unfortunately this is not available at the stores)

Step 1 - Make a template for your card on a thin piece of card.Mine measure 4.5cm at the top horizontal line and 13cm at the bottom most horizontal line.Cut it out.I so wish I was a pro and could make a pdf template for you, so that you could have straight away downloaded it.But unfortunately I don't know how to do that and probably don't have the software.So I guess you'll have to draw taking help from the picture.Sorry.However if you can help me with how to make a pdf template,I'd appreciate that.

Step 2 - Make some mini bows out of ribbon.I used 2 colours to add some interest.

Step 3 - Place the template on your white chart paper and trace the outlines.Cut it out.
Take the decorative paper and cut it into size 13cm by 18 cm.Use scalloped scissors at one of the longer side to give it a wavy pattern.So that the dress gets that wavy look at the bottom instead of a straight line.Fan fold it(=Make pleats).
With the help of the template trace the top portion of the dress on the golden paper and cut it out too.

Step 4 - Cut out two thin pieces of paper to make the straps of the gown and paste it on the chart paper as shown below using fevicol.Next paste the top portion of the gown on the chart paper.
